De 0-1-2-3-4 stappenschakelaar kan bijvoorbeeld worden gebruikt om een van de drie fasen en een generator te selecteren om eenfasige elektrische apparaten van stroom te voorzien of om een van de verschillende apparaten/modi/procesprogrammastappen enz. in te schakelen.
