A cyclic relay or cyclic timer relay is used to periodically switch electrical loads (such as lights, fans, etc.) on or to provide control signals in automatic monitoring or control systems (for example, to activate an emergency flashing light or an audible signal). This cyclic timer can be useful for organizing automatic ventilation processes, opening and closing windows, periodically activating heating or ventilation, for lighting, or for rotating advertising boards.

If you configure the relay so that the on and pause times are symmetrical, it can be used, for example, to gradually switch on certain electrical devices during power/current limitations (heaters, heat sources). The presence of a switching output contact allows the cycle to start pulsing or with a pause.
